When Eghan Lhin returns to his father's castle there is great rejoicing. But Eghan is restless and wanders out among his people. There he meets an old man who tells him of an old prophesy. Will it come true? Will anyone survive?
In Book 2 of Marcia Laycock’s Higher Ways series, Prince Eghan returns to his father’s kingdom and a wondrous welcome, but danger soon comes to call. This Young Adult fantasy is populated with intriguing characters, and features familiar-types of landscapes. But while Eghan is struggling to adjust to kingdom life again, unexpected visitors bring a powerful attraction—and a mounting suspicion of disaster.
I enjoyed this fantasy, especially the mysterious builder/prophet Ulhrik. The author builds tension as skillfully as he designs the House of Prayer, keeping the pages turning. The setting was easy to picture, which I appreciated, and the ending of this book makes me glad I have the third one to read. The Gospel was clearly presented without preaching, another solid plus.
Journey Through Fire and Smoke is recommended, especially for young adult admirers of fantasy. It earns four stars.
I was given an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion, which I have given.
