TITLE:  Where Rivers Part

AUTHOR:  Kellie Coates Gilbert

DATE:  2015

PUBLISHER:  Revell

STARS:  ****

Following in her estranged father's footsteps, Dr. Juliet Ryan has devoted her scientific acumen to corporate America, providing safe drinking water for millions--and affording her plenty of perks along the way. Then, without warning, a fast-moving disaster sweeps Juliet into a whirlpool of corporate scandal and puts lives at risk. As she scrambles to find answers, Juliet must face her deepest wounds and join forces with her father to expose a far-reaching conspiracy. Underneath it all, she struggles to forgive those who betrayed her trust--not least of all her own father.

What do you do when everything you believed true turns out to be false? Who do you turn to? Who can be trusted? Author Kellie Coates Gilbert draws us into the turmoil that rocks Juliet Ryan’s world – and her life. Juliet’s character is drawn like a finely detailed etching, and even though her world of laboratories and boardrooms is unfamiliar territory for me, I felt as though I knew her well. And I felt her shock as her precise world unraveled.

Where Rivers Part kept me riveted almost the entire way through the book. I recommend this book and give it four stars.

TITLE:  JETT (Descended #1)

AUTHOR:  Dana Pratola

DATE:  2012

PUBLISHER:  Dana Pratola

STARS:  *****

When a reclusive businessman takes an interest in Haven's artwork, she knows it's an answer to prayer. But Jett Cestone is an enigma with a disconcerting connection to the young women in his employ. He's by far the most unusual man she's ever met. Haven is the most interesting woman to ever cross Jett's path. But she's too naive and pure to learn what goes on in his home. Too bad he wants her more than he's wanted anyone or anything in his life.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but it grabbed me from the prologue and held me captive to the end. There were a couple formatting problems were dialogue showed up in extra-large font, but that didn’t detract from this well-written story. Author Dana Pratola takes an obscure Biblical reference and weaves a fantastic tale of mystery, genius, and love. Jett is an enigma, either an incredible hero or terrible villain – or maybe both. Haven is a supremely talented but undiscovered artist, until Jett’s grandmother falls in love with one of her paintings. Jett will do almost anything for his grandmother, but her desire brings Haven into a fortress-like house of secrets.

JETT is not your typical romance or even romantic suspense, but I enjoyed it and its multi-layered plot and intriguing characters. This book earns five stars from me.

I’ve always loved music, even before the writing bug hit. Grace notes are little extras, not the actual melody. Just something that adds to the feel of the music. My desire for this blog is to encourage and bless readers, to share a little grace.
