Are you feeling stressed by your long to-do list this Christmas? Are you worn out from all the demands on your time and energy? How did Christmas become such a burden? When did we lose sight of its meaning? And what should we do about it?
I really like the idea that we make St. Nicholas Day, December 6, the day of gift giving and receiving, parties and gatherings. That would enable us to keep Christmas as a holy day, not just another holiday of excess. Worshipping Jesus as a family and church would be the focal point of Christmas instead of one more thing to fit into the schedule. New tranditions of sharing with strangers could replace greed-inspired spending and excessive indulging.
And perhaps we would regain the peace that the angels proclaimed on that night long ago.
